Our Lake District location

We are located at Hawkshead, which is near Ambleside in the English Lake District

From junction 36 of the M6 take the A590 to Newby Bridge. Turn right over the bridge and head for Lakeside, continue along this road past Stott Park Bobbin Mill and Esthwaithe Trout Farm. Howe Farm is eight miles from Newby Bridge.

Alternatively from Ambleside stake the B5286 to Hawkshead and from the village take the road signposted for Newby Bridge. The farm is on the right around ½ a mile from the village.

Places to visit and things to do

To slip into the pace of life over this traditionally peaceful side of Lake Windermere, take a five-minute stroll into the picturesque village of Hawkshead where Wordsworth spent his schooldays. Perhaps walk two miles further to Near Sawrey, home of 'Hill Top' where Beatrix Potter wrote her children's stories.

In the other direction towards Newby Bridge, twenty minutes walk from Howe farm is a trout farm on the banks of Esthwaite water and Grizedale forest has many comfortable woodland and low lying fell walks as well as an excellent children's playground.

Try a touch of Edwardian elegance with a cruise on Coniston water just four miles from the farm, aboard the steam yacht 'Gondola'.

For the energetic, Mountain bikes can be hired in the forest and well marked routes can be followed from the visitor center. Ambleside, five miles north at the head of Lake Windermere is a center of excellence for climbing, fell walking and water sports at Waterhead and Low Wood.

To carry on from Near Sawrey to Far Sawrey puts you in touch with Bowness on Windermere the Lakes liveliest resort. However its comforting to know just three miles away via the ferry. Howe Farm awaits for your return to peace and tranquility.

To eat out in this part of England is an absolute joy. In recent years chefs from fashionable city restaurants throughout Europe have complimented the local produce with there unique talents producing a truly irresistible combination at the keenest price.
